The smart move is to use “dielectric grease” from an automotive parts store, which is readily available and cheap. An “old skool” alternative is to use petroleum jelly (commonly branded as Vaseline), which does not conduct electricity, but it does easily and cheaply protect electrical connections from exposure to air, humidity, and rain.
Historic Applications of Silicone Dielectric Grease. Silicone Dielectric Grease (and lubricant) is a low viscosity grease. The normal temperature range is from around -40F up to +500F degrees. Silicone Dielectric Grease is far superior to petroleum jelly or Vaseline for preserving connections. Silicone grease has been around for a long time.
This takes care of the immediate electrical concerns. For a reduction in contact maintenance intervals, the metals should be protected from atmosphere by a coating. Grease will be pushed aside during the mating process, whether it is the thicker Dielectric grease or the thin residue left by Deoxit.
Use dielectric grease on spark plug wires and trailer hitch connections to prevent fusing, Dielectric grease can be used on battery terminals to keep them corrosion free. With a high temperature tolerance, dielectric grease is suitable for high heat under hood applications, such as automotive wiring connectors.
Dielectric grease keeps moisture out of electrical connections. Waytek carries dielectric grease in a 1/3 ounce and a 5 ounce tube for small to large jobs. Use dielectric grease on spark plug wires and trailer hitch connections to prevent fusing, Dielectric grease can be used on battery terminals to keep them corrosion free.
The dielectric grease I use comes out of a tube, not a spray nozzle, and is a thick, clear gel-like substance. I used it on electrical connections like headlight prongs, etc. Motorcycles vibrate and shake a lot. This tends to cause electrical connections to loosen, and once they loosen a bit you will get electrical arcing between the components.
Dielectric grease is not an electrical conductor. It adds resistance that creates heat. ... CR, did you notice that he sealed the connections externally with grease but did not put it on the conductors? Do you have the same opinion? ... If you want to retain connectors, clean out dielectric grease. Use Ox-Gard instead. Ox-Gard is a corrosion ...
Electrical connectors rely on lubricants to keep corrosion from degrading the terminals and to reduce the amount of force needed to connect them. After 24 hr at 200°C, oil loss for the PFPE-urea ...
Should I use dielectric grease on my ground connection? submitted 2 ... For what it's worth, I often use dielectric grease around exterior electrical connections (e.g. in the engine bay) because the road salt in winter up here really eats shit up, so I think makes a small difference. Anything inside the car is generally fine though. ...
Examining the connector for the ECM I wondered whether I should use dielectric grease on it at time of assembly. Do you use dielectric grease on these connectors, and on other engine related connectors?
Dielectric grease is often used to seal the connection between spark plugs and spark plug wires. Dielectric grease, or tune-up grease, is a silicone-based grease that repels moisture and protects electrical connections against corrosion. It is also used to keep dirt, water, and other elements out of electrical connections.
So at this point I have both O2 harness wires repaired with using dielectric grease. Is true that dielectric grease can affect low voltage signal (under 1 volt)? Does the O2 sensor connector need to breath? Should I clean out all the dielectric grease from the connectors? Is the electrical connector cleaner sprays safe to use on those ...
I haven't mentioned anything about using dielectric silicone grease as I've been advocating it's use for electrical connections for almost a decade. The main thing is it seals out air and water so prevent corrosion from even happening. A propane torch got the grease to char white but not melt. Left in the freezer, it did not even harden or thicken.

This posting is intended to share my thoughts on electrical connections, whether it be low voltage DC, household type AC voltages, or high voltages ... One in particular was from Detroit and it specifically required the use of a dielectric grease on ALL junction connections for their most current Series 40 electronic engines.

If you're putting silicon grease on all these bulb-to-socket contact areas, that's the wrong place to put it. I don't use any silicone grease at all, it really isn't needed on trucks and cars, IMO. The rubber seals on the socket may benefit from it, but you won't find them coming from the factory with dielectric grease on them.
Dielectric grease should not be applied to the actual electrical connections where conductivity is desired, it is an insulator and arc preventer. It works great between spark plug boots and the ceramic insulator of the plug to prevent sticking. _____
Dielectric grease is a non-conductive, silicone-based grease that's designed to seal out moisture and prevent corrosion on electrical connectors. It also disrupts the flow of electrical current, which makes it good for lubricating and sealing the rubber parts of electrical connectors.
Permatex Dielectric Tune-Up Grease protects electrical connections and wiring from salt, dirt and corrosion. Required for modern high energy ignition systems, dialectric grease extends the life of bulb sockets and prevents voltage leaks around any electrical connection. Also prevents spark plugs from fusing to boots.
A wide variety of dielectric grease options are available to you, such as construction, transportation, and cosmetic raw materials. You can also choose from base oil, anti-wear, and complex agent. As well as from sae, nsf. And whether dielectric grease is double components adhesives, chemical auxiliary agent, or other adhesives.
